The power and beauty of storytelling

Not just books, but film, media, photos, songs and even fashion too. Over these past few weeks you could say that I have have consumed a buffet's worth of stories that fortunately came at the right place at the right time. And these stories have shaped and continue to shape the way I think and what I value in life. The beauty of storytelling is that you can experience endless possibilities without limitations - you can fly, run a hotel for dead souls or just simply be opened to a new world you haven't explored yet. 

It's also got me thinking about doing my own storytelling. I am currently doing VCE Media 3/4 where I have to create my own project to essentially tell a story, and being surrounded and watching other passionate people (in real life and online) create things has really inspired me to continue to create and tell stories into the future - even after I finished high school and the uni course I want to do is nothing in relation to art. 

There's just something about the act of creating that is very freeing. You have the reigns and full control of what you want to tell and how to tell it. You're free to express yourself in any way you wish and it's so inspiring and fulfilling. 

It's a shame though how people want to create and tell their stories but their mental barriers are stopping them. "I'm not good enough", "No one will look at my work", etc. But the thing is, everyone has to start somewhere. You're not going to be born having the painting skills of Picasso, the writing skills of Plath or Dickinson or the hands of Saint Laurent. And each creator has experienced their own ups and downs behind the scenes. However, the most important thing I believe is, create for you, and with a purpose. 

I feel like if you have an intention and are creating for yourself - because it's your passion or form of self-expression, it will be fulfilling regardless of the numbers. Heck, for some reason I write these things and basically no one sees it. But I am doing this for myself - my self-expression and despite the numbers, I am living my best life. 

And if anything, I can always be your hypewoman - like that Kris Jenner meme recording something... yknow what I'm talking about.
